Water for Health:Research teams composed of Dutch and Indian researchers can apply for joint bilateral programmes, jointly funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and The Netherland Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). The topic of this call is ‘Water for Health’. This call will be implemented by the Department of Biotechnology and by Technology Foundation STW of NWO.

Purpose :The joint call supports high quality research and development programmes aiming at ‘new’ wastewater management to ensure good quality fresh water free of risk-causing contaminants and promote productive, safe reuse of water, thereby enhancing human and environmental health conditions. The aim of the call for proposals is to stimulate sustainable Indian-Dutch research collaboration by funding joint research projects on the topic of wastewater management via a multidisciplinary approach and by collaboration with and co-financing by users. Each programme should consist of at least three complementary research projects and should foster the collaboration between the best research institutes/groups in both countries.

Joint programmes should:

The proposed solutions must contribute to improving health conditions through technologies for treatment of wastewater streams with a focus on recovery and reuse of water, nutrients and energy;
• include a pilot-scale demonstration stage involving different end-users and other stakeholders;
• have an multidisciplinary character, combining researchers from multiple research institutes with different fields of expertise;
• contain high quality scientific research that must be executed by researchers and institutes with excellent track records;
• be a cooperation between excellent institutes in both countries (India and the Netherlands).
