Suryodaya has been established in the end of December 1997 and is registered in 11 March, 1998 as a non – profit, non political, secular body at Guwahati under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 for legal expansion of its networking tentacles across the north eastern India. With well equiped and well managed ‘Suryodaya’ is one of the fast growing Non-profit organisation both in terms of outreach and portfolio in Northeast. With a holistic approach the organisation has focused on supporting livelihoods of the disadvantaged people through various support programmes. Although the operational area of the organisation is entire Northeast but we initially focused Kamrup (both rural & Metro) Nalbari, Baska and Barpeta districts of Assam for all round development aspects according to the main aims and objectives of the organisation. The primary objective of Suryodaya, a state level organization, is to provide technical and human resource support for the capacity building of its network member groups and associates, to enable them to work for the people’s rights based issues sustainable development and economic betterment of their respective target groups of people, in both rural and urban areas. The evolution of Suryodaya is the outcome of an organized effort by hundreds of SHG across the state who thought of updating their knowledge and capability related to human rights and social for the purpose of improvement of quality of work, planning, monitoring and evaluation, financial management, linking micro issues with macro situation, marketing of products etc. The genesis of Suryodaya lies in these needs of the grassroots level voluntary organizations. Suryodaya is an organizational innovation for promotion of social action for social change through People’s Empowerment.
