Capacity Building
Nari Surakshya Samiti (NSS) is a Women Voluntary Organization based at Angul district of Odisha. It has been working with women and children belong to marginalized communities such as Dalit and Adivasi (SC/ST) in three districts of Odisha i.e. Angul, Deogarh and Jajpur for 22 years. The primary focus of the organization is to eradicate gender and caste discrimination issues existing in rural villages and to ensure rights of women in family, community and institutions like educational, local self governance, natural resource management, panchayati raj, cultural institutions which enhances the responsibility to discharge system and structure of the society. The women can be organized with multidimensional way to be one separate entity, identity and strength with economic empowerment, social development, political involvement and ethics of the life. Vision: promoting platform for women at state level to address the issues of women, particularly Dalit and Adivasi women and to make them self-reliant and ensure their overall development. Mission:
1. To promote and facilitate women participation in socio-economic activities and government programs
2. To sensitize local government, administration, Panchayatraj representatives and media towards women issues
3. To promote socio-political awareness among women organizations and to develop skills of poor women.
4. To improve the protection and promotion of the rights of Dalit and other discriminated groups
5. To build Nari Surakshya Samiti as a local resource agency for the development of rural women and other backward communities NSS is implementing following activities:
Leadership training for rural women to fight the rights of widows, unmarried mother, victims of dowry, discrimination against Dalits and Adivasi women
Capacity building of elected women representatives
Generate awareness on SCs and STs (POA) Act 1989
Publishing posters and books on women rights
Running residential school for children belong to weaker section of the society and SC category
Campaign for women rights and monitoring of atrocities against women
Conducting water and sanitation programme in 200 villages
Vocational training to young women for self employment and self-reliance
Natural resource management for capacity building of community
