Activities:


Vision: Poor among the indigenous tribes mobilising themselves against the denial and deprivation of basic rights such as the right to life and livelihoods along with the right to access basic needs like food, shelter and clothing which includes certain statutory safeguards and facilities.

Mission: Helping the neglected indigenous people to gain access to productive resources, services, and human rights, through increased strength and self-reliance along with expanding economic and political spaces through awareness, organization and mobilization.

Experience: ‘YES’ is serving the poorest of the poor among the tribes over the last sixty years through spreading awareness regarding health and education, protection of human rights in the event of atrocities on the tribes, through capacity building and rights education, involved in child education through hostels and schools, helped the tribes to improve economic conditions through promotion of income generation programs, environmental education and tree plantation through participation of local people.

Activities: Education of the poor and vulnerable children: A hostel was established in the year in 1947 for 9 poor children and expanded to 200 children (girls & Boys) by the year 1972. Children were reading up to graduation and many of them settled comfortably in life. The hostels were closed in the April 1972, due to the change in the Government policies. A Co-education school was started in the year 1963 for the poor children with a strength 150 children, the school is being run till date with strength of 220 children. So far the school educated about 2500 children with out any fees and of them serving in the Government and private sector and some of them pursuing graduation and Post graduation. Awareness for the indigenous tribes: Series of awareness programs on sanitation and health, child education, environment and human rights organized through out the district from the year 1989. The programs were organized in 53 mandals of the district; mass rallies were organized with about 10000 tribes in all the urban areas of the district against the atrocities on the tribes. Each month two programs are being organized over the last 20 years. Promotion of livelihoods: 300 Self Help Groups (SHGs) were organized in Tenali revenue division and 50 SHGs in the Narasarao peta Revenue division along with 60 SHGs in the Guntur Revenue division for the tribe women. Money saved through the SHGs along with bank linkages people could get access to investment for income generation programs. About 4000 families benefitted through this program. Environment protection: Regular Environmental awareness programs were being organized in the Guntur district, tree plantation were taken up in about 20 mandals. About 50000 saplings were planted in the villages. The trees were shady and indigenous species which were being used by the local people. Infrastructure: ‘YES’ owns 672 sq yards land, a school building and two office rooms. Office furniture, computer with peripherals with internet connectivity, HF & VHF wireless radios for using in the event of emergencies. Personnel: Organization is having a rich volunteer base in the district, along with a ten member team for implementing activities of the organization. These personnel qualified and implement the development programs being taken up by the organization. Future programs: ‘YES’ is aspiring to take up various development programs for the upliftment of the indigenous tribes, along with promotion of awareness through rights based approach for accessing natural resources along with conservation of ecology and environment which is crucial for the survival of the tribes.
