Badlao” which literally means “Change” came into existence as a result of working with “development refugees who were ousted from their villages after the creation of “Maithon Dam” on river Barakar in erstwhile Bihar. Realising the need to uplift and empower the deprived and marginalised people, Mr. Bajrang Singh, a social activist , along with some of his associates started working for these communities who were mostly Santhals,Pahariyas and Bauries. Initial engagement with these communities was on enhancing their income through nonfarm activities like Tasar spinning. Over course of time, Badlao Foundation was formally registered in 1982 andlater on, to promote Tasar spinning , it got affiliated to Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Government ofIndia in 1985. Today the organization serves tribals , scheduled castes and other excluded communities in the districts of Santhal Pargana region of Jharkhand. Vision Badlao Foundation stands for equality and equity based gender-just socially transformed and self reliant society. Mission Badlao Foundation endeavors to empower people to social transformation to achieve self reliance and gender justice through participatory efforts and to ensure ecological balance. It strives to uphold human dignity to strive for an equitable social structure and to enable women and socially disadvantaged to claim their rights.
