About India HIV/AIDS Alliance
The India HIV/AIDS Alliance (Alliance India) is a diverse partnership that brings together committed organisations and communities to support sustained responses to HIV in India. Complementing the Indian national programme, we work through capacity building, knowledge sharing, technical support and advocacy. Through our network of partners, we support the delivery of effective, innovative, community-based HIV programmes to key populations affected by the epidemic. Working in India since 1999, we work through NGO and CBO partners to support efforts that have a sustainable impact on HIV. We place communities at the centre and work to ensure that vulnerable and marginalised people are meaningfully involved in all aspects of our response, including sex workers, men who have sex with men (MSM), transgenders, injecting drug users (IDUs) and people living with HIV. Our programming and policy efforts are driven by evidence of what works; quality and accountability are core priorities in our interventions, technical support and grant management. About the Programme:
Indian HIV/AIDS Alliance is seeking for an implementation partner (preferably community based organization) to implement one of its prestigious prevention programme called ‘WAJOOD: Empowering Transgender and Hijras to Access Sexual Health (SH) and Human Rights in India’. Wajood is funded by Amplify Change with an objective to reach 1000 transgender and hijra population till October 2017. Gender based violence and challenging stigma, discrimination, attitude and laws and sexual health access are the main thematic areas of Wajood. The primary objectives of this programme are, to strengthen community systems for transgender/hijras through capacity development and expanded access to quality sexual health services responsive to their needs; to increase awareness and reporting of gender-based and sexual violence among transgender /hijras and action for mitigation and prevention and to support community-led efforts for policy change for transgender /hijras to contribute to their overall health and wellbeing protecting their rights.
The project will be implemented through capacity building, evidence gathering, communication and networking. The key activities will include – collecting evidence on SRHR, policy and linkages, providing SRHR services and referrals on the field, increasing the empowerment and mobilization through community events, advocacy campaign, capacity Building initiatives, reporting and programme documentation and sustainability campaign. Apart from sexual health related services the other areas of this programme will be - private sector employment of the educated transgender and hijra population, livelihood training and micro-finance for transgender/hijra population and curriculum development on transgender/hijra for academic institutions. Thus the programme will be able to bring meaningful changes in terms of overall development of transgender/hijra community based in Delhi.
Expected quantitative and qualitative outcome of the programme:
The selected partner organisation, through this programme will have to reach 1000 numbers of transgender/hijra individuals in and around Delhi within a period of two years and will be provided and/or referred with necessary services available under this programme. Overall reporting on violence will increase and there will be positive steps towards the social and economic welfare of the transgender/hijra community.
