INTEGRATED INNOVATIONS TO IMPROVE TREATMENTS AND EXPAND ACCESS TO CARE

Mental illness is prevalent in all regions of the world, in every community and across every income level. An estimated 13% of the global burden of disease is attributable to mental disorders, with almost three quarters of this burden affecting people in low- and middle-income countries.

To respond to this burden, Grand Challenges Canada has committed up to $30 million CAD for the most promising Bold Ideas with Big Impact. Our focus is on low- and middle-income countries. Grand Challenges Canada is looking for solutions that demonstrate a clear path to scale and sustainability, have measurable outcomes of increased access to care and improved treatment, and can ultimately serve as models that can be replicated or scaled in other low-resource settings

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

In this call for proposals, Grand Challenges Canada has committed up to $6 million CAD and is seeking bold ideas for products, services, policies, and implementation models that tests how to increase the number of people who have access to care, and how to have the greatest measurabletreatment outcome for each person reached in a sustainable manner. Proposals must provideinnovative solutions relevant to low-resource settings in low- or middle-income countries. We expect to fund proposals through two funding streams: seed (up to $250,000 CAD) and transition-to-scale (up to $1 million CAD in matched funding).

Note: This Request for Proposals is being re-issued on November 26, 2013. The amended version includes greater detail on the application review process and timeline and reflects the change in our indirect costs policy. The maximum allowable Indirect Costs rate is now 12% of all Direct Research Costs. A Theory of Change, which successful applicants will be expected to develop for their project within the first 6 months of a grant agreement, has also been added as an annex.

Application Deadline: January 9, 2014 11:59pm ET
