Society Registration Act
Society Registration Act, 1860:
▪ To get an organization registered under this Act, there should at least be seven or more members.
▪ You have to prepare bye-laws and Memorandum of Association as per your organisation’s mission, goals and objectives. These documents needs to be signed by the members of the organization.
▪ An affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper sworn by the chief functionary of the organization and should be signed/attested by a Notary Public or by the Executive Magistrate.
▪ Registered office details such as the address of the registered office (for address proof, you need attach a telephone bill or rent receipt etc. of that premise.
▪ Also you need to take permission from your landlord that he/she has no objection to start and run an NGO in his/her premises.
▪ You need to send the above to the Registrar of Societies alongwith a covering letter informing him of your Executive Body’s decision to register the NGO.
▪ You also need to pay the requisite fee for applying for registration.
After you applied for registration, the officials at the Registrar will go through your application and if everything is in line with the requirement as per the Societies Regn Act, the Registrar may register your organization and provide you with a registration number.
If the application is not satisfactory, the Registrar of Societies may ask you for further information or simply reject your application giving reasons.
