Over the last two decades, climate change (CC) has come to be recognized as an important process posing significant threat to the global environment and the populations living in it. The impacts of global warming and its impacted changes in weather and seasonal patterns and the incidence of disasters are increasingly felt at all levels of society, but its most intense effects appear to be focused on the people and communities dependent upon primary sector occupations, i.e., agriculture, forestry, fisheries etc..with predictions suggesting a further intensification of these effects in the medium to long-term. – affecting mostly the vulnerable sectors and communities. The key objective of our Seminar is to make the participants aware of impacts/effects on vulnerable communities due to rapid change of climate and also encourage them to take up the mitigative activities in their respective work areas as possible.. Why this seminar? · To understand the concept of climate change and its impact on diversified fields, on vulnerable communities.
· To help the participants understand about the correlation between Climate Change and Disaster Occurrence. · To make the participants to assess how the climate change is related to their target communities and their livelihoods rather than an objective or scientific assessment of the climate change itself. · To help the participants to understand the measures of adaptation and mitigation · To help and make the participants assess the climate related vulnerability in their respective local contexts Discussion points · Climate change and its impact on Agriculture, Livelihood, Fishing community, women and children · Climate-Adaptive measures in Agriculture · Relation between food insecurity and climate change · Climate Change and Disaster Occurrence Who should participate Senior Executive and Staff of NGOs particularly those working with vulnerable sectors and communities, agriculture and coastal developmental programmes and projects relating to women and children. Students and Faculty Members of Educational Institutions are also welcome to attend the Seminar Resource: Gurudutt Prasad, Chief Executive of CADME will lead the facilitation Team and will be the chief resource of the workshop. He has over three decades of experience in the area of Disaster Management and Climate Change issues. A veteran in the field of development, Mr.Gurudutt is well known for his expertise both at national and international circles. Gurudutt will be assisted by Mr.NNS Chandrasekhar and Mr.Siva Sankar from CADME, both having several decades of experience in hardcore development interventions in their own respective NGOs as well as at national and international level.
