Thane Municipal Corporation in association with Kaivalya Education Foundation introduces School Excellence Program The educational leadership program will focus on improving the student learning outcomes in 145 schools in Thane city
Mumbai, 11th September, 2015: Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) in association with Kaivalya Education Foundation (KEF) recently announced the School Excellence Program in Thane city. KEF is chaired by Mr. Ajay Piramal, Chairman, Piramal Group. Mr.Piramal is an avid proponent of education reforms through school leadership. He envisions empowering millions of school leaders and youth, across the country to create a sustainable change across India.
The School Excellence Program will be rolled out in 132 primary and 13 secondary schools under TMC in Thane city. Some of the salient points of this program are:
v To develop teachers and Head Masters as effective leaders to improve students' learning outcomes.
v It is a 5 year long program, where learning outcomes will be measured at regular intervals by third-party evaluators.
v To transform teaching-learning practices in schools under the program.
v To strengthen each school's management committee and create effective development plans.
The orientation event for the initiative was attended by 145 school Head Masters, teachers, Government officials from Surat and Rajasthan, and representatives of Piramal Foundation and KEF.
Speaking at the event, Shri Sanjay More, Mayor, Thane Municipal Corporation said, "The School Excellence Program is a very good initiative and I along with the Education Committee Chairman will ensure that it is well-implemented so students can get maximum benefit from it."
Shri Manish Joshi, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Thane Municipal Corporation said, "We understand that to improve the quality of education in schools, it is very important to empower and train educators. We welcome this association with KEF and consider this partnership to be a step towards making Thane a smart city".
KEF is presently running the School Excellence Program across 257 schools in Surat under Surat City Corporation and has also executed it in 222 schools under MCGM in Mumbai. This model has also been implemented by Piramal Foundation for Education Leadership in 672 schools under the Government of Rajasthan. The results have been impressive with ~20% increase in learning outcome reported in schools under the program in Rajasthan.
