Skill Business @ 2017 Working together for Skilling Youth in India Date: 8th April 2017, Saturday 10:00am to 05:00pm Venue: Young Men Christian Association (YMCA), 382, New Rasta Peth, Nr. Quarter Gate, Pune, 411 011, Maharashtra In India at present , We are facing major Employability issue .While the Indian economy grows at a decent pace, the demand for labour is increasing tenfold. The real issue we are facing is with not lack of jobs but lack of employable, skilled talent that can keep pace with the fast expanding industry. Due to our unilateral, textbook- style of education, young graduates entering the workforce are not equipped with the job skills they need to qualify as employable. According to NSDC, the growing skills gap in India is estimated to be more than 25 crore workers by 2022. Reports indicate that only 10% of the total workforce in the country receives some kind of skill training (2% with formal training and 8% with informal training). Further, 80% of the entrants into the workforce do not have the opportunity for skill training. After realizing this fact government has started several skill development initiatives like National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), National Skill Development Agency (NSDA), and Skill Development Ministry and so on to connect young generation with working world. The emphasis on Skill India is to scale up India though skilling youth. NGOs/Educational Institute/University has huge opportunity to join this mission and contribute to the employment issues faced by youth. NCD believes that before entering in this domain, NGOs/Educational Institute/Universities / Training institute’s etc must have a know-how of policy framework, important schemes, role of various agencies like NSDC, NSDA and Ministry, National Skill Qualification Framework, Qualification Packs and many more.
