Positive Women Network Society, Uttar Pradesh (UPPWN+), a state level network of women living with HIV is a movement that represents issues affecting women and children across Uttar Pradesh. UPPWN+ has been actively advocating for changes that help women and children lead quality lives. Since 2009, UPPWN+ strives to create better opportunities for women and children with the support from National, State & District level support organizations. A total membership of women living with HIV is approx. 3000. An HIV positive diagnosis can bring forth a lot of emotions, shock, anxiety, grief, fear, uncertainty, anger, despair and more. It creates a sense of urgency, a pressing need to make decisions and changes. It can also bring on a need for support services and advocacy. OUR GOAL The goal of UPPWN+ is to improve the quality of life of women living with HIV in Uttar Pradesh. It is an affiliated organisation of the Positive Women Network, PWN+. OUR OBJECTIVE is • To create an enabling environment for WLHA by stigmatizing HIV/AIDS. • To educate WLHA and their families in order to increase their awareness of issues affecting them. • To establish a system of referral services. • To work towards empowerment of women living with HIV (WLHIV). |
