About OUTREACH : OUTREACH was established in May, 1993 to scale- up the concept of ‘Participatory Approaches in Rural Development among developmental practitioners particularly, Government. It has presence and working for improving the quality of life of poor families in rural areas of Karnataka,Andra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It has field offices with resources/training centers in districts of Bidar, Bagalkot, Bellary, Gauribidanur with knowledgeable and experienced staff. It has project centers in Andra Pradesh , Madanapalli and Bhadrachalam as well as in a centre in Hosur in Tamilnadu. Outreach’s Vision, Mission, Strategic Directions/ Plans: Vision: ‘To reach out to the rural poor for creating self-reliance for improving the quality of their lives’.

Mission:

 • To work with vulnerable rural communities of degraded and drought-prone regions to enable them to organise themselves into viable institutions

• To empower these communities to place legitimate demands on the system to address developmental needs for sustainable livelihoods Strategic Directions

Empowerment of poor, particularly women through establishment of Community Based Organisations or CBOs (i.e. self help groups or SHGs and Cluster Level Associations or CLAs)

• Fighting poverty through better savings and credit and mobilising revolving fund for enterprises from other donors and financial institutions and capacity building of CBO members to take up micro enterprises

• Decentralisation through establishment of sustainable CBOs, in which decisions travel bottom up

• Fighting discrimination by ensuring that no community is left out from CBO network and that the poorest of the poor are covered

• Water retention and sustainable use through watershed plus activities and water harvesting structures

• Rural finance through mobilising rural credit funds for CBOs

• Rural health: focusing safe drinking water and sanitation especially, toilets

• Rural energy and housing through promotion of rural technologies like smokeless chullah, biogas units, etc

• Human and institutional development through need based capacity building of CBOs and staff of OUTREACH

• Partnerships through policy dialogues with government by sharing results of research and advocacy through Rural Policy Analysis and Research Centre.

• Establishing a network of NGOs, to build their capacities and promote participatory approaches to development

• Natural calamities and relief by providing emergency relief and long term rehabilitation

OUTREACH supports its client communities especially, farming community through the following Thrust Areas:  Natural Resource Management including; - Agriculture, Sericulture, Horticulture, under irrigation condition too - Watershed development including, appropriate cultivation practices an efficient water use technologies – drip irrigation, sprinklers, etc., - Waste land development and Community Forestry - Introduction and spread of alternative fuel and energy saving technologies like, smokeless Chula, bio-gas, solar energy devices for lighting and heating, etc.,  Promotion of Community Based Organisations(CBOs) – SHGs, Federations(association of SHGs), Watershed Development / Management Committees, Common Interest Groups (CIGs), etc., for all walks of life, including, irrigation farmers  Microfinance with ‘credit service’  Micro-enterprise – skill development training service  Climate Change related issues
