About TFVAW:

TFVAW is a state level network of intellectuals , right based activists, NGOs working on Gender Isuues. Media, Youth Groups, Law Enforcing personnel and other development partners. TFVAW saw its genesis after a workshop Violence Against Women (VAW) organized by Oxfam (India) Trust) on March 12-13, 1994, to disseminate the finding of study ‘VAW in Odisha’, amongst the Government and Non-Government Development agencies. The recommendations that was put forth in this study, made it imperative to form a Task Force to carry forward the pertinent issues. The three vital entry points which enabled us to make a break through were - research, sensitization and advocacy.

We have been a role model in the state in setting up Women Cell in 1999, the first of its kind with support from the Commissionerate of Police. .

Our Vision: Enable violence free and gender just society.

Mission: To strengthen our endeavor in bringing structural changes in the root, to stand with the marginalized and deprived women in their struggle to achieve a desirable gender just society and to reach newer paradigm where women’s issues would be perceived in the right perspective. We believe not to simply alleviate the symptoms but to overcome the root causes.

Objectives:

Ø  Acting as a recommending body to bring reforms in the structure and function of the systems- operating and implementing laws to safeguard women and children.

Ø  To provide a platform for various stakeholders working on Women's issues at the state level.

Ø  To strive for attitudinal change of men and women on Gender Equality.

Ø  To protect and safeguard the rights of women and children by empowering them.
