 Introduction to the Grant for Democracy and Human Rights Projects in Overseas 2013
 
 
 The Grant for Democracy and Human Rights Projects in Overseas (GDHRPO) 2013 supports work that contributes to promoting democracy and human rights and to building international solidarity. The grant will be awarded to non-government organizations (not GOs or individuals) based in civil communities which have been working in this field for more than 3 years.
 
 The May 18 Memorial Foundation has granted total 40 organizations from 18 countries from 2005 to 2012. In  2012 the Foundation provided funds to 5 organizations in 5Countries: CP-UNION ORG (Philippines), Assembly of Social Mobilization (Sri-Lanka), Centre for Organization Research & Education/ Human to Humane Transcultural Centre for Trauma and Torture (India), VISION (Pakistan), Center for The Defence of the Individual (Israel). Activities were made possible by the 2012 Grant Projects included monitoring election, mobilizing civic participation for democracy, supporting torture victims, investigating state violence and providing legal aid for political prisoners.
 
 The Grant consists of 2 main categories: Project support and Organization support. The May 18 Memorial Foundation will support 6 projects from 6 organizations in the field of judicial monitoring, torture and trauma rehabilitation, democracy movement commemoration, fact-finding mission, legal support for human rights victims and election monitoring.
 Grantee organizations will receive the opportunity to participate in a variety of the May 18 Memorial Foundation’s international solidarity programs such as Gwangju Asian Forum, the May 18 Academy and so on. The support will be provided as per the following Categories Eligibility
 · Any organizations which have been working for more than 3 years are eligible to apply for the Grant.
 · Organizations whose country belongs to OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) will not be selected unless the field of the organization's work is based in a developing country.
