Darwin Initiative invites applications for grants schemes for which the details are given below: The Darwin Initiative is a UK government grants scheme that helps to protect biodiversity and the natural environment in developing countries and UK Overseas Territories (OTs). Darwin-funded projects usually aim to help preserve biodiversity and the local community that lives alongside it. Most projects will include one or more of: •building environmental knowledge •capacity building •research •implementing international biodiversity agreements The Darwin Initiative supports developing countries to conserve biodiversity and reduce poverty.
The Darwin Initiative provides grants for projects working to help developing countries meet their objectives under:
• the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD); • the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing (ABS); • the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA); • the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES)
Project funding in developing countries Funding from the Darwin Initiative is available for projects that will benefit biodiversity and local communities in developing countries.
