Innovation Plan GIF supports innovations that benefit people living on less than the equivalent of $5 per day (PPP) in developing countries, and we are especially interested in innovations that impact people living on less than $2 per day (PPP). We are also seeking innovations that benefit vulnerable groups such as women and girls, the disabled, minority or indigenous groups, refugees or displaced communities, or other vulnerable populations. We seek innovations with potential to achieve significantly better results for lower cost than existing solutions. We need to clearly understand what the problem is, how it affects poor and vulnerable groups in developing countries, and how your innovation provides a solution. For instance, an eligible innovation may address development challenges such as a major health problem, low quality of vital services (such as sanitation, electricity, education, or financial services), or supply chain problems that affect smallholder farmers. We value innovations that are expected to bring significant value to poor and vulnerable groups. GIF look for an implementation approach that is well designed, and that reflects a clear understanding of existing efforts to address similar problems and the barriers to success. Impact and Potential to Scale: What is your plan for bringing your innovation to a large scale (e.g. through private sector, government, international donors/nonprofit organisations, or a combination) over the coming years? What are the 2-3 main expected impacts of your innovation? How do you intend to track progress or evaluate the success of your innovation (methods and key metrics)? Who are your target customers or beneficiaries? Describe their demographic characteristics (income group, gender, etc.) Roughly how many people do you expect your innovation will reach if it is successful (e.g. in 3-5 years or longer-term)? Explain your estimates.
GIF seek innovations that have potential to eventually scale up and meaningfully improve the lives of millions of people living in developing countries. We support innovators who incorporate and generate useful knowledge - including rigorous evidence of social impacts and learnings about successful implementation approaches - during their paths to scaling up.
