About Real and the countries it works: Reall is a social enterprise that is dedicated to alleviating housing conditions in informal settlements across the developing world. In 1989 Homeless International was born out of the social housing community in the UK and we have developed a unique approach to tackle the problem of slums. We have had an exceptional few years at Homeless International, and with thanks to the ever-growing commitments from our funding partners, we are working with more community organisations, in more counties, than ever before to tackle the problems of informal housing and urban poverty. Since 2010, our annual budget to accelerate sustainable housing development in Africa and Asia has increased tenfold to approximately £20 million. With this, we have been able to increase the number of households helped from 1,000 in 2010 to 20,000 so far this year. We now operate in 20 countries through 26 entrepreneurial and inspiring community organisations. As our funding has grown, so too have our aspirations. We want to make a bigger and lasting impact on a problem that affects one in seven people alive today. To do that, we are making some big changes – starting with our name. Reall – Real Equity for All – represents all our past, present and future goals. Reall doesn’t just build homes and houses; it can create a genuine real estate investment opportunity for both investors and the Community Development Enterprises we work with. Over the next 15 months, we are undertaking a re-branding process with all our partner organisations and we shall be completely converted to Reall by December 2015.
