Request for Proposals from Artists
India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) invites proposals from artists who wish to create works in found spaces in Bangalore city, as part of the second edition of Project 560.
What is Project 560?
5-6-0 are the first three digits of the pin code for Bangalore city; and Project 560 is an initiative that seeks to encourage artists to creatively engage with the city's found spaces, re-imagine them and bring them alive.
A 'found' space could be a market, a park, an abandoned site, a warehouse or any such space that inspires you. These could be spaces that might have lost their meaning or are waiting to be given meaning to; spaces that have been forgotten and are waiting to be rediscovered; spaces with stories and histories of people, communities, struggles, losses and victories; spaces that have transformed unrecognisably with the advent of rapid urbanisation in Bangalore; or those that have remained unchanged over many years. It could be a space that you feel compelled to pause at, are critical of, brood over, banter with or even tussle over.
Grant amount : Up to Rs 1.5 lakh
Who can apply? Musicians, dancers, theatre practitioners, puppeteers, storytellers, poets, comedians, magicians, writers, photographers, filmmakers, painters, sculptors, installation and media artists can apply.
While we encourage artists from the city to apply, Project 560, 2015 is also open to artists from across the country. You must be a current resident of India, and if not an Indian citizen, must have lived in the country for at least five years. The project idea will, of course, have to be for a found space in Bangalore city only.
How to apply? To apply, please send us (IFA) a proposal describing the following:
Your existing practice, your concerns with space, and/or your interest in working with found spaces. The space/s in Bangalore that you have chosen to engage with. The project that you want to pursue in the chosen space/s, detailing the context of the space and how you wish to engage with it. Details of collaborators, if any, and the nature of the collaborations. Work plan and budget. Additionally, please include with your proposal:
A covering letter addressed to the Executive Director. Permission letters from relevant authorities for the use of the chosen space/s. Supporting materials such as photographs, audio/video recordings of earlier projects. A recent bio-data including your postal address, telephone numbers, and e-mail address. Proposals may be submitted in Kannada or English.
You may send draft proposals/project ideas for feedback until May 15, 2015, by email to sumana@indiaifa.org. Your final proposal, including all supporting materials, must be in hard copy and should reach us on or before June 15, 2015. Please note that final proposals submitted online will not be accepted.
Selection Process Shortlisted final proposals will be evaluated by an external selection panel. The shortlisted applicants will be notified by early July 2015 and should be available to speak with the panel in the latter half of July. Ten grants will be made and grant awards will be announced by the first week of August 2015. IFA's decision on the grants will be final.
The selected groups/individuals will have three months, from September to November 2015, to develop their artistic works in their chosen spaces. These will culminate in the Project 560, 2015 Festival in December 2015 in Bangalore.
For any queries/clarifications regarding your proposal, you may contact Sumana Chandrashekar, Programme Executive at sumana@indiaifa.org
