Communications Co-ordinator - Oxford - Oxfam GB International
Oxfam GB invites applications for Communications Coordinator – Women's Economic Empowerment and Care (WE-Care) (INT0649) position
Women’s empowerment includes economic leadership and political voice. Many rural women are seeking to balance caring for families with new leadership roles. However, since care work is almost universally women’s responsibility, difficult and time-consuming household tasks limit women’s opportunities in education, employment, politics and leisure. Oxfam aims to address ‘heavy and unequal’ care work, supporting women by increasing recognition of care work, advocating for investments to reduce the unnecessary drudgery of care work, and redistributing responsibility for care work more equitably. We are looking for someone to play a vital role in coordinating and delivering communications for an important new programme to research and learn about care work in agricultural communities where Oxfam works. The role: At Oxfam, the Programme Strategy and Impact Team is fundamental in the assurance of quality and effectiveness of Oxfam’s diverse programme work, and promoting knowledge exchange for internal and external development practitioner audiences. As part of this team, you will be designing and delivering high quality communications and reports for the WE-Care programme. You will be based in the Agricultural Markets and Enterprise unit, working with the Programme Coordinator for the WE-Care programme, and the communications coordinators of Oxfam’s ‘Knowledge Hub on Women’s Economic Empowerment’. The role of Communications Coordinator is responsible for synthesising and sharing information from the programme activities, commissioning blogs from staff, maintaining information on the website, promoting content through other channels, and supporting the production of infographics, videos and case studies and donor reports. The role will also be closely involved in the internal communications for the implementation of this unique programme of research and learning in seven countries, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as Asia and Latin America. The post-holder will support the WE-Care Programme Manager on internal and external events, regular communications with project staff, and the planning, materials and presentations for on-line training and learning seminars. What we’re looking for: Oxfam is developing high-quality communications for learning and knowledge exchange for development practitioners, and to influence the thinking, policies and practices of a range of development institutions. We are looking for an individual who has the ability to consolidate and communicate complex information to a wide range of audiences. We need a colleague committed to delivering high quality outcomes, while working flexibly with a diverse team across many countries and disciplines – from local project staff to advocacy NGOs and quantitative researchers. With an appreciation of cultural and context-specific sensitivities of work on women’s empowerment and care, you would be willing to work hard to deliver effective communications on this critical issue. The role requires significant experience in design and communications software, and on-line content management and collaboration tools, including web 2.0 and e-learning. You will have excellent written and verbal communications skills, ability to communicate women’s rights issues for a range of audiences, and experience of project managing communications products, working independently and collaboratively. If you think you have the skills and experience necessary to be the communications coordinator for WE-Care for Oxfam, please apply below. Oxfam works in more than 70 countries. A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
